Common Questions About Medicare GUIDE Dementia Care
Yes, it's completely free if you have Original Medicare. There are no hidden costs, copays, or out-of-pocket expenses. This is a federal Medicare benefit through the GUIDE Model, which launched in 2024 to improve dementia care nationwide. Medicare pays for these services because research shows they reduce costly ER visits and hospitalizations while helping people stay home longer.
You receive up to $2,500 per year in respite care services (in-home help from HomeAide caregivers), plus unlimited access to care coordination, counseling, and education through HottoCare. The $2,500 typically covers 75-100 hours of in-home care per year, depending on your specific needs.
No! You keep all your existing doctors. The GUIDE program adds an additional layer of specialized dementia support—it doesn't replace your current healthcare team. In fact, HottoCare coordinates with your doctors to improve overall care.
Unfortunately, the GUIDE program currently only works with Original Medicare (Parts A & B). If you have Medicare Advantage, you may want to explore switching during open enrollment, but we can discuss other options available to you.
Yes! If you're experiencing memory issues or cognitive decline, HottoCare's physicians can evaluate you and provide a diagnosis as part of the program. You don't need a diagnosis beforehand.
