Common Questions About VA Home Care Benefits

Most Veterans receive these services at no cost. VA home care services are free for the first 21 days in any 12-month period for all enrolled Veterans. After 21 days, copays may apply based on your VA priority group and service-connected disability status. Many Veterans continue to receive care with zero copays. We can help you understand your specific situation.
Most Veterans receive between 6-20 hours of care per week based on their assessed needs. Some Veterans with higher needs may qualify for more hours. The exact amount is determined by your VA care team during the assessment process.
Yes! When your VA coordinator asks about agency preferences, you can request HomeAide Home Care by name. We've served the VA for over 10 years and many Veterans specifically ask for us.
We strive to provide consistency by assigning the same caregiver to your visits. This helps build trust and ensures your caregiver understands your preferences and needs. If scheduling requires a substitute, we'll notify you in advance.
If you're already approved by the VA, we can often start services within a few days. If you're not yet approved, the process typically takes 2-4 weeks. For urgent situations, ask your VA provider to expedite the assessment.
We serve all Veterans from all branches of service—Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Space Force. Thank you for your service.
We serve Veterans throughout the East Bay including Hayward, Castro Valley, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Fremont, Newark, Union City, Oakland, and Alameda. If you're outside this area, we can help you find a VA-approved provider in your region.
As long as you continue to meet eligibility requirements and benefit from the services, you can receive VA home care. Your care plan is reviewed regularly (typically annually) to ensure it still meets your needs.
